The 13th National University Optoelectronics Design Competition concluded successfully in Hangzhou from August 19 to 22. Our university sent 13 teams to the national finals, ultimately securing an impressive haul of five first prizes, four second prizes, and four third prizes.
In the “Hamamatsu Cup” physical track finals, all six teams from our university achieved second prize or higher, including three first prizes and three second prizes. Notably, in the challenge titled “Smart Car Laser Combat,” both of our participating teams won first prizes, showcasing exceptional performance.
In the “Yutong Cup” optical design track finals, our university maintained a high standard of quality for its entries, earning two first prizes, one second prize, and four third prizes.
Furthermore, several faculty members were recognized with the “Outstanding Instructor Award” for their contributions: Chen Songlin and Sun Jianfeng from the School of Astronautics, Li Junqing from the School of Physics, and Shi Weijia from the School of Instrumentation Science and Engineering received the award for the “Hamamatsu Cup” physical track. Meanwhile, Chen Shouqian, Guo Xinmin, and Jiang Shikai from the School of Astronautics were honored with the same award for the “Yutong Cup” optical design track.
Our university also received the “Outstanding Organization Award” for both the “Hamamatsu Cup” physical track and the “Yutong Cup” optical design track, further highlighting our comprehensive excellence in this prestigious competition.

According to reports, the 13th National University Optoelectronics Design Competition was hosted by the Chinese Optical Society, represented by its Optical Education Professional Committee as the organizing body. The competition was specifically managed by the National University Optoelectronics Design Competition Committee and organized by Zhejiang University. Under the theme of “Enlightening Innovation, Chasing the Future,” this year’s competition saw an overwhelming response, with 343 universities, 3,290 teams, and 12,156 students participating in the preliminary rounds.
The event featured two main tracks: the Optical Design Track and the Physical Track. In the “Yutong Cup” Optical Design Track, 147 universities, 653 teams, and 1,742 students registered. After the initial review, 49 teams advanced to the on-site finals. In the “Hamamatsu Cup” Physical Track, 308 universities, 2,684 teams, and 10,414 students participated. Following regional selections across seven divisions—North China, Northeast China, Northwest China, Southwest China, Central China, Southeast China, and Eastern China—a total of 324 teams from 129 universities qualified for the national competition. Among them, 168 teams from 82 universities were recommended to compete in the on-site finals.
