May 15 marked the launch of HIT’s 9th Teaching Festival, themed “Upholding Tradition, Fostering Innovation, and Aiming for Excellence in Talent Cultivation.” Vice President Shen Yi delivered opening remarks, and Vice President Shuai Yong outlined the university’s internationalization efforts in talent development.

Shen Yi: Building a New Ecosystem for Excellence
In his address, Shen Yi highlighted HIT’s commitment to its founding mission of “educating talents for the Party and the nation” over the past five years since receiving General Secretary Xi Jinping’s congratulatory letter. He emphasized the university’s progress in integrating the cultivation of elite talents with national strategic needs, particularly in the face of transformative challenges posed by technological advancements and global education reforms. “We must adopt a broader vision and stronger resolve to pioneer a new era of talent development,” Shen stated. He called for accelerating the creation of an “AI+Education” ecosystem, including intelligent teaching platforms and personalized learning systems, to empower educators and students alike. He urged faculty to evolve from “knowledge disseminators” to “innovation catalysts,” while encouraging students to strengthen their expertise alongside critical and creative thinking. Shen stressed the importance of upholding HIT’s heritage while driving innovation to establish the university as a global benchmark in higher education.

Shuai Yong: Global Collaboration for Future-Ready Talents
Shuai Yong presented a report titled “Intelligent Global Connections, Educating for the Future: Advancing High-Quality International Talent Cultivation,” in which he detailed HIT’s achievements in global partnerships. These achievements were under the guidance of President Ji’s congratulatory letter and in line with HIT’s “world-class university” vision. “By embracing openness and innovation, we aim to forge alliances with top global universities and elevate talent cultivation to new heights,” Shuai said, underscoring HIT’s strategy to strengthen its position among world-leading institutions.

HIT-HKU Partnership Inked
A highlight of the event was the signing of the HIT-HKU Excellence Class Agreement with the University of Hong Kong (HKU). The pact aims to integrate elite educational resources, explore innovative talent cultivation models, and jointly nurture globally competitive innovators.
Professor Lu Yang, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Chair Professor of Nanomechanics at HKU, delivered a keynote report on the university’s engineering education strategies, sharing insights into disciplinary development, faculty excellence, and pedagogical innovation.

Festival Highlights
The Teaching Festival features three thematic segments: “New Ideas, New Development,” “New Opportunities, New Challenges,” and “New Contributions, New Role Models.”These segments focus on AI-driven educational reform, pedagogical innovation, and teaching excellence. Events include the 2nd “Great Ideological and Political Education” Innovation Competition, forums on AI-era teaching practices, and awards recognizing outstanding educators, teams, and students exemplifying academic excellence.
