On April 16, 2025, the second installment of the “Dialogue with the Undergraduate College” series, the Teaching-Research Integration—Faculty Open Day event, was successfully held at Conference Room 816 in the Gewu Building. Participants included Wang Guangzhi, Deputy Dean and Director of the Department of Teaching Research and Quality Assurance; Zhen Yubao, Deputy Director of the Department of Teaching Research and Quality Assurance; Wu Chunyan, Director of the Center for Teaching Research and Curriculum Development; and Wang Lidan, Director of the Center for Faculty Development and Teaching Excellence. Additionally, a number of teacher representatives also attended the event.
The event commenced when Professor Ren Yanyu from the School of Physics brought up a significant concern. He pointed out that in the teaching evaluations of experimental courses, the results for the same teacher often showed considerable fluctuations and had limited reference value. This observation immediately triggered a focused discussion among the attendees. Addressing the challenges of short-duration experimental modules and fragmented teacher-student interaction, participants formulated a systematic reform strategy. This strategy encompasses the restructuring of teaching evaluation frameworks and the adoption of digital assessment tools. The Teaching Research Department underscored its commitment to enhancing the evaluation mechanism that combines supervisory oversight and student feedback. It will implement rigorous data validation processes to ensure the authenticity and equity of evaluation outcomes.
Another highlight of the event was the presentation by Xu Tianqi from the Mental Health Education Center of the Student Affairs Office/Youth League Committee. Representing her teaching team, Xu carried out a detailed argument on the reform concept of the “Happy Life” course. The course is designed with a clear-cut goal of systematically enhancing students’ psychological resilience and self-adjustment ability. Through the reconstruction of the curriculum system and the expansion of teaching scenarios, the team intends to establish a characteristic education model centered on effectiveness. The ultimate aim is to develop a mental health education brand that can serve as an exemplary and influential model, offering an innovative approach to psychological education in higher education institutions.
This event not only provided a platform for in-depth discussions on teaching-related issues but also paved the way for future improvements in teaching quality and educational innovation.
