On April 9, 2025, the first installment of the “Dialogue with the Undergraduate College”—titled “An Introduction to the Academic Affairs Office”—was successfully held in Room 816 of Gewu Building at Harbin Institute of Technology. Xu Ping, the Deputy Dean of the Undergraduate College and Director of the Academic Affairs Office, was present, along with the heads of key centers and offices related to teaching and student affairs.
In his opening welcome speech, Xu Ping elaborated on the purpose behind the launch of this brand event. “We aspire to create a platform where students can engage in direct, open, and sincere conversations with the teaching management team,” he said. “Whether it’s academic confusion or constructive feedback on teaching management, students are encouraged to voice their thoughts here. Our goal is to address students’ practical problems and enhance the quality of our services.”
Live at the Event
During the free-exchange session that followed, students from diverse grades and majors actively participated, raising a series of pressing questions. Topics ranged from postgraduate recommendation policies and major diversion procedures to physical education course selection, cross-major development opportunities, and international exchange programs. The on-site staff, consisting of experienced administrators, attentively listened to each query, provided comprehensive answers, and engaged in in-depth discussions on several suggestions put forward by the students. For issues that required inter-departmental coordination, detailed records were taken, and a commitment was made to expedite the feedback process to the relevant units.
Student Inquiry Session
The event received positive feedback from the students. Li Zhizhong from the School of Energy commended the initiative, stating, “This event fills a long-standing gap in communication. Before, we had no clear channels to ask questions. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity and look forward to contributing to the betterment of our university.” Wang Yingqi from the School of Life Sciences and Medicine also expressed her enthusiasm, hoping that the event would become a long-running tradition and continue to bring tangible benefits to students.
